When one phosphate is removed by breaking a phosphoanhydride bond is a process called hydrolusis, energy is released, and ATP is converted to adenosine diphosphate (ADP). Likewise, energy is also released when a phosphate is removed from ADP to form adenosine monophosphate (AMP).
