Explanation:

Without a Coalition simply means a party with majority of seats in the Legislature.

If we talk about our central legislature i.e Lok Sabha, Here in order to form government A party needs Absolute Majority i.e atleast 1 seat more than the Half of the total number of seats in Lok Sabha.

In Lok Sabha, Total members = 543

Absolute Majority ( To form Government without a coalition) = 543/2 + 1 = 273 seats.

In Case of state Legislature it depends on their Strength.

For Example, I am from Jharkhand.

In my state total number of seats in Legislative Assembly = 80.

So, clearly Absolute majority = 80/2 + 1 = 41 seats
