Question :-

What fraction should be subtracted from

 \dfrac{11}{12} to get \dfrac{5}{8} ?

Solution :-

Let the other no. be \bold {x} .

 \implies  \dfrac {11}{12} -  \bold {x} =  \dfrac {5}{8}

 \implies  \bold {-x} =  \dfrac {5}{8} -  \dfrac {11}{12}

 \implies  \bold {-x} =  \dfrac {15 \: - \: 22}{24}

 \implies  \bold {-x} =  \dfrac {-7}{24}

 \implies  \bold {x} =  \dfrac {7}{24}

Thus, the value of  \bold {x} is  \dfrac {7}{24} .
