Popular Types

Scroller

Main article: Scrolling (creating a scroller)

Scrollers are a kind of project where the background and objects "scroll", or move along the screen, when being scrolled up, or down. Usually, the player will stay on the same X coordinate, but often a "jumping feature" will allow the player to change their Y coordinate, upon a keyboard interaction. These projects commonly have an opposing AI, often called "enemies", and platforms, in which allows the player to travel upwards, or downwards depending on the elevation of the platform. Some examples of scripts for "Scrollers" are:

Platformer

Main article: Platformer

A more commonly used type of game, platformers are games where you "jump" along the Y coordinate, or travel upwards on platforms to achieve a particular goal, often sending the user to the next "level" of gameplay. Some platformers also take on the aspect of scrollers.

RPG

Main article: RPG Projects

RPG Projects are games where the user is sent to fight pieces of opposing AI, or "enemies", with preset actions to take, or "attacks" as they are commonly put. Often, one will have "companions" that will help during one of the stages of attacks.

Tycoon

Main article: Tycoon Projects

The goal of tycoon games is to get as much "money" or whatever currency is described in that particular game as possible. You are usually required to buy upgrades, to advance as to get more money.

Maze

Main article: Maze

Mazes are a common form of game type projects, as they tend to be particularly easy to program. A common form of maze creation involves barriers in which if come in contact with another sprite, will send that particular sprite being controlled by the user, to the beginning of that stage of game-play. Other variations simply do not let the user go through the walls.

Pong

Main article: Pong

Pong games are games that have a platform go from left to right, hitting a ball to the top of the screen, and coming back down, but if the ball goes past the platform, the game ends, or some other penalty occurs.

Dress Up Games

Dress up games are games that are played by dressing up a character, often by clicking clothes and other items for them. Some of these games have become extremely complex and reach the front page. Other types have special buttons to click to change the clothing.

Online Multiplayer Games (Cloud)

Online multiplayer games (also known as MMO) are games that utilize the Cloud feature to allow people from different devices to play with each other. The idea of being able to play with other people online makes this a popular selection. However, since Cloud can only be used by Scratchers, New Scratchers and guests cannot play these games with other people. MMO games can even be made from other popular game types.

Here is a list of ten game ideas for new scratchers who have nothing to do,

10 GAME IDEAS FOR NEW SCRATCHERS:
Part 1: Basics
1. Dress-Up Games
Dress up games are simple, yet fun. They draw a crowd, if you know what tags to use.
2. Music Games
Although not technically games, if you put some pictures with music over it, these games
can be really interesting! If you put bouncy music and put moving pictures, that would also help.
3. Slideshows
If you have tons of pictures on your computer just waiting to be used, go ahead and make a
slideshow! They are fun and whacky, depending on what you make. Just choose a theme and start importing!
4. Food Games
Easier then you think, but not a baby's game, food games can be LOTS of fun. How many times have
you dreamed up a fantastically tall ice-cream? Or a crazy looking pie? What about your dream-come-true sandwich?
The more food varieties= the more fun!
5. Imported Videos
So, you can't import videos. Bummer………… but still, you can make your OWN videos. How? Well, make a sprite and put LOTS
of different costumes that resemble the same thing, but change slightly in each picture. Sort of like stop-motion. Have fun!
Part 2: More Than Basics
6. Store/Hotel/Museum
If you have been to another coding website, then you know enough about it to make something more complicated.
To make a store/hotel/museum; you must use the ‘elevator system’, which is basically like… well… let me show you.
use this block to make it where ‘when spacebar clicked= switch backdrop to elevator’. When the backdrop
is switched to elevator, your going to have the backdrop look like an elevator and the level buttons will have labels and numbers like
every other normal elevator. When those numbers are clicked on your keyboard, the backdrop will switch the whatever backdrop the
label reads (you can find more detailed explanations on the forums, or just experiment on your own).
7. Movie
Unlike a video, as mentioned above, a movie normally comes in episodes (on scratch). People make little cartoons that they make
into a series of little episodes, all focused on one particular story. Some movie ideas are:
I. Warriors
II. Magical Creatures
III. Dragons
IV. Pokemon
8. Simpler Games
Not nearly as complicated as a video game, simpler games are basically just ‘you walk around and complete quests or listen to
people talking’. Some games are even easier than that, in that, you walk around and save a kingdom by whenever you touch
something; it dissapears and you get a point on your score.
9. FLAPPY
Flappy is an excellant example of a ‘simpler game’. You just click the bird/Flappy (or any character you want to put in)
and make it move a few steps above. The obstacles are the only problem, when it comes to coding, but even those
‘little obstacles’ can be solved when you across them.
10. Video Games
Does anyone in your house have a device? I can guarantee that at least one person in your house has a device of
some sort (or you wouldn't be able to go on scratch). If you play games on your computer, ipad, ipod, itouch, ipad mini,
etc., you will have come across a game of some sort that resembles minecraft, skylanders (my brother plays it), infinity (another of
my brother's), mariokarts, and more! You may have noticed that they all are called Video Games. These are harder to
make on scratch, but, once you figure it out, it becomes second nature.

Thanks for reading my answer , I hope it helps you get an idea for another game to make. Have fun scratching!
