Yes see here.. gases are indeed required for photosynthesis but just because anything is green it doesn't have to undergo photosynthesis... Photosynthesis requires a green colour pigment called chlorophyll with is present in green plants,algae and cyanobacteria... Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast... Even those plant which has yellow and orange leaves do undergo photosynthesis.

1)Light reaction - solar energy is trapped by Chlorophyll and is stored in the form of chemical energy
