Sugarcane is a tropical plant, therefore, requires a year warm weather to reach maturity. The areas having temperature of 20° to 26°C and an average rainfall of 150 cm are suitable for its cultivation.Sugarcane grows well in alluvium and light-clay soil. Moist clay-loam with good drainage is the best soil for cane. As the crop is a valuable one large amount of fertilizers are used to increase the yield. Sugarcane cultivation also needs sufficient capital and labour.
RICE
It is a kharif crop which requires high temperature, (above 25°C) and high humidity with annual rainfall above 100 cm. In the areas of less rainfall, it grows with the help of irrigation. Rice is grown in the plains of north and north-eastern India, coastal areas and the deltaic regions.Paddy is grown in wide range of soil, from the podzolic alluvium of China to the impermeable heavy clay of central Thailand. Fertile riverine alluvial soil is best for rice cultivation.
