While the process is volcanic, volcanoes and earthquakes along oceanic spreading ridges are not as violent as they are at convergent plate boundaries. The third type of plate boundary occurs where tectonic plates slide horizontally past each other.

Volcanoes will form at the surface of plate A. As the leading edge of plate B subducted and move towards the mantle, it will melt and turns into magma which rise up on the surface of plate A creating volcano.
