We will use ruler and compass to draw a perpendicular bisector of a segment.

  • We can place the still point of the compass on one endpoint of the line segment and make two arcs above and below that line segment by taking more than half length of the segment in the compass. We have to repeat the same process by putting the still point of compass on the another endpoint by keeping the exact same length in the compass.
  • Now, we will get two intersection points, at above and below of the line segment. We just need to draw a straight line with the help of the ruler by joining those two intersection points. And, we will get our perpendicular bisector.
  • We cannot use ruler and protractor only in this case. Because, the length of the line segment may not be easily divisible into two equal segments by the markings of the ruler and we will not get accurate result.
  • The compass and ruler method is the most accurate method in this case.
