13th of May was a good day as it was the birthday of Mr. Frank. He was very happy. He received many gifts as the day did not go without celebration. It was the nineteenth wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Frank as well. Annes father received various gifts which included the biography of Linnaeus from Mr. Kleiman, a book on nature from Mr. Kingler and another, The Canals of Amsterdam from Mr. Alfred Dussel. The van Daans gifted him a huge box which contained three eggs, a bottle of beer, a jar of yoghurt and green tie. It was so beautifully wrapped that it seemed be the work of a professional. Anne presented him roses which smelled so nicely that Mr. Bep's red carnations were no match to them. A very small but decorated cake arrived from Siemen's Bakery. Thus he had a normal and wonderful birthday despite being in hiding, under the constant fear of getting arrested.
