A unicellular organism which is also called a single cell organism refers to an organism which has only one single cell.

The unicellular organisms can broadly be classified into two categories which are prokaryotic organisms and eukaryotic organisms.

The prokaryotic organisms largely consist of different types of bacteria and archaea.

Most of the eukaryotic organisms are known to be unicellular however some of them are unicellular  such as the unicellular algae, unicellular fungi and protozoa.
