The zinc dissolves, with fizzing. Hydrogen gas is given off, and a solution of zinc sulphate is left behind.

Zn + H2SO4 -----> ZnSO4 + H2

Two new products have been formed. That is one way of telling that a chemical reaction has taken place. The other is that the mixture will get warm - exothermic reaction.

Zn + H2SO4--->ZnSO4 + H2 .So hydrogen gas is released.
