Genes are the basic and functional unit of "hereditary "i. e. transfer of characters from parents to offsprings. We know that during cell division, chromosomes that are condensed form of DNA (chromatin) separate, giving 1 copy of the genetic material to the daughter cell. Of Genes are not present on chromosomes then during cell division daughter nuclei will not receive the genetic material or we can say the hereditary traits will not be transferred to daughter cell.
