saliva helps in digesting the food and moisturizing the enzymes which are present in saliva which helps to break down the starch into simple sugar which is very important for digestion and if saliva is not present into the mouth the food will not digest easily and starch will remains in starch not in simple sugar .

Saliva helps in making food moist nd helps in easy movement along oesophagus if it is not secreted by salivary gland then there can be difficulty in its movement nd hence will not be digested easily.
