What happen if the peristaltic movement did not get reverse in the animal like cow?

 In cud-chewing animals, such as cows, reverse peristalsis can occur so that the food is brought back from the stomach to the mouth for rechewing. When the stomach is filled,peristaltic waves are diminished. If movement isn't reversed cellulose will not get digested.

Cows and some other animals who feed on cellulose(plant material) need time to digest it. They have reverse peristaltic movement to bring the food back to the mouth to chew it. If this was not possible digestion would have have been completed as cellulose needs time to digest. Incomplete digestion may lead to health problems in the animal.
