If the respiratory tract is not moist in state the following might occur:
For diffusion to take place the surface must be hydrated or moist. Due to this reason the respiratory tract is moist. If not moist the oxygen and carbon dioxide oxide won't diffuse properly and it may cause choking which leads to respiratory problems. Hence it is advised to keep the respiratory tract moist.
