When a particle absorbs heat it gains more kinetic enrgy and starts moving freely
Ex : When ice is heated it gains kinetic energy and changes into liquid state {which has more kinetic energy than solid}
When a particle gets cooled down under high pressure it loses it's intermolecular space and kinetic energy and changes it's state
Ex : When gases are cooled under high pressure the liquify
HOPE IT HELPS !!

or you can say- when it absorbs kinetic energy its intermolecular forces loosen and intermolecular spaces widen hence they change their state

when matter change its shape then interparticle space of attraction between molecules will change, it change into solid then matter's molecule will become closer to each other and being changed into gas it's molecules will become far from each other
