Carbon dioxide passed into limewater gives a milky solution, due to precipitation of an insoluble suspension of CaCO3:
Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)
Ca(OH)2(aq) + CO2(g) → CaCO3(s) + H2O(l)
