In stomach, the food is mixed with gastric juice which contains HCl , mucus and Pepsin enzyme. When food reaches the stomach , the HCl creste an acidic environment which activates pepsin enzyme. The pepsin enzyme converts the protein into simpler forms ( partially digested).
