When light passes through a prism the light bends. As a result, the different colors that make up whitelight become separated. This happens because each color has a particular wavelength and each wavelength bends at a different angle.

Anshumandey19: not only that its wavelength is a factor .But also the speed of the colours also matters as refractive index=speed of light in vacuum/the speed of light of that colour. the speed of red light is maximum and the speed of violet light is minimum .This bending of the light depends on refractive index . 1)sin i/sin r= const. 2)they are on the same medium
