The bond between K and CN is IONIC, K gains +ve charge whereas CN gains -ve charge due to high electronegativity. ... That's why, when haloalkanes reacts with KCN it will form alkane nitrile or alkyl cyanide and when haloalkanes reacts with AgCN gives isocyanide . GOD BLESS ALL.
