When a copper metal is placed in a solution of silver nitrate,a shiny grayish white deposit of silver is formed on the copper metal and the solution turns blue in colour.

Reason:- Copper metal being more reactive than silver,displaces silver from silver nitrate solution.

Equation:-
Cu (s)+ 2AgNO3 (aq)  ->  Cu(NO)^3 (aq) + 2Ag (s)
