When electric current is passed through a solution of copper sulphate , it results in the dissociation of the solution resulting in the formation of free ions .

Equation :

\mathsf{CuSO_4 ============> Cu^{2+} + SO^{2-}_4}

Thus copper sulphate is broken down by passage of electricity into free ions of copper and sulphate.

This phenomenon is utilized in electrolysis.

If electrodes are used then this will result in the following :

Copper ions are deposited at the cathode.

This is because always positive ions are deposited at the cathode.

Sulphate ions are deposited at the anode.

Negative ions are deposited at the anode.

Hope it helps !
