The reaction between carboxylic acid ans an alcohol in the presence of conc. H₂SO₄ to form a sweet odoured substance, ester with the functional group -(C)OOR is called esterification ...

Here, if ethanol is warmed with ethanoic acid in the presence of conc. H₂SO₄ - to give ethyl ethanoate or ethyl acetate - the equation would be :

C₂H₅OH + CH₃COOH __conc.H₂SO₄ __ C₂H₅COOCH₃ [ethyl acetate] + H₂O
