When vegetable oil is added with hydrogen in the presence of nickel as catalyst the product formed is vanaspati ghee. This corresponding reaction is called as  hydrogenation of oil.     The main physical property difference in between vegetable oil and the product is that the oil is liquid in state and the product is solid in state.
