When magnesium react with nitrogen, magnesium nitride is formed according to the following equation;-
3 Mg + N2 ----> Mg3N2
At room temperature and pressure Mg3N2 is a greenish yellow powder. When magnesium is burned in air some of the magnesium also reacts with nitrogen in the air and some magnesium nitride is also formed.
Magnesium nitride reacts with water to produce ammonia gas and magnesium hydroxide;-
Mg3N2(s) + 6 H2O(l) → 3 Mg(OH)2(aq) + 2 NH3(g)
3 Mg + N2 ----> Mg3N2
At room temperature and pressure Mg3N2 is a greenish yellow powder. When magnesium is burned in air some of the magnesium also reacts with nitrogen in the air and some magnesium nitride is also formed.

Mg3N2(s) + 6 H2O(l) → 3 Mg(OH)2(aq) + 2 NH3(g)
