Non-metals react with hydrogen to form covalent hydrides. For example, nitrogen, oxygen, sulphur and chlorine react with hydrogen to form ammonia, water, hydrogen sulphide and hydrogen chloride, respectively. For example oxygen nitrogen sulphur to form water hydrogen sulphide and ammonia.
