An object is never in fact at infinity, but if an object is far enough away from the lens, as the light rays from the object pass through the lens, the rays can be considered to be parallel. This is what is meant by an object at infinity, which is a concept mainly used with reference to telescopes, in which the objects are considered to be at infinity. Ray diagrams are drawn following the usual rules.
