sodium when exposed to air catches fire very easily......
so it will be stored under kerosene....

Sodium (Na) is a highly reactive metal. Once it comes in contact with air (oxygen) it form its respective oxide, i.e, sodium oxide (Na2O). This reaction is very quick.
4Na+O2 ------> 2Na2O
