when we apply pressure to particle of matter , the particles come closer n the volume decreases.
if too much pressure is applied to gas it condenses to form liquid n if too much pressure is applied to liquid it solidifies to solid.
but no matter how much pressure u apply to solids it doesnt contract in volume.
Hope it helps!!
N plz follow if u lyk my answer.

When we apply pressure to the particles of the matter, then the particles come closer to each other because pressure is the force applied per cross-sectional area so the force applied brings the particle closer to each other.
