On 26th April 1994, just before midnight, was the time that a new South African flag replaced the flag of the old apartheid regime. The flag ushered in democracy, as it was on 27th April that South Africa held her first democratic election in which Nelson Mandela won. The flag flew high on 10th May, the same year, when Mandela was inaugurated as the president. The flag had different colors including; chili red, spectrum green, blue, black and yellow which symbolized the unity among the different races that constituted the Nation of South Africa.
