By most accounts; Chandragupta Maurya defeated Seleucus I Nicator in a battle in 305 B.C. After Alexander's death in 323 B.C; the wars of the Diadochi kept Seleucus I Nicator occupied. At this time; the idea of India was very fluid and many territories such as parts of present-day Afghanistan were historically, religiously and culturally linked with the ancient Indian kingdoms.
Seleucus' Indian campaign was, however, a failure. Like most ancient battles lost in the fog of history; It is unknown what exactly happened. Perhaps Chandragupta defeated Seleucus in battle. No concrete sources mention this
