there is a chemical secretion ( acetyl choline) and the electric impulses are converted to chemical energy

What is a synapse?

A Synapse is the space junction between two adjacent nerves where the nerve ending of one neutron meets the dendrite of another neutron.

What really happens at the synapse?

When an electrical signal from the receptors reach the synapse b/w two neurons, a chemical called neurotransmitter is released. These chemicals cross the synapse (gap) and then start a similar electrical impulse in the dendrite of the next neuron.
