What happened at YMCA swimming pool which instilled fear of water in douglas' mind?

• As Douglas understood that he may suffocate under the water,  so he made three attempts to come above to the water surface, yet fizzled and fell oblivious.
• Even at the age of three or four, he had been totally overwhelmed by a tremendous wave at the coastline in California. His dad clutched him around then to save him from suffocating, however at the YMCA pool there was no one to rescue him.
