Once it happened such that Douglas was alone at the pool and a boy bullied him by tossing him deep into the water. This frightened him to the core.
He used his brain luckily at that point in time and took a big jump from the bottom and paddled to the edge of the pool.
Though he saved himself, the sensation of death instilled fear into the little boy

- As Douglas understood that he may suffocate under the water, so he made three attempts to come above to the water surface, yet fizzled and fell oblivious.
- Even at the age of three or four, he had been totally overwhelmed by a tremendous wave at the coastline in California. His dad clutched him around then to save him from suffocating, however at the YMCA pool there was no one to rescue him.
