what happened if a voltmeter is connected in series and ameter is connected in parallel​

IF VOLTMETER IS CONNECTED IN SERIES THE. DUE TO HIGH RESISTANCE NO CURRENT WILL PASS THROUGH IT

IF AMMETER IS CONNECTED IN PARELLEL THEN net resistance of the circuit decreases. Hence more current is drawn from the battery, which damages the ammeter.

Since , voltmeter has high resistance and it is used in parallel combination.  

The reason , is that , in parallel combination , voltage is same in each branch and current is divided .

Now , we know , V= IR  

So higher the resistance , lower will the current consumed

So , voltmeter measures the voltage and the current is passed through other branches as the volt meter used negligible current

Now , give work for you , that why it cannot be connected in series
