  • The rebellion is also known as India's First War of Independence, the Great Rebellion, the Indian Mutiny, theRevolt of 1857, the Uprising of 1857, the Sepoy Rebellion and the Sepoy Mutiny.  On 10th may 1987 the Sepoys of  Meerut started the revolt against the british Government .The main cause of the Revolt was the introduction of the Enfield Rifle .The grease in the rifle was made of Pig and beef fat.This enraged the Hindu and Muslim soldiers.as this was against their religion.
