If ovum is fetilised corpus luteum secrete large amount of progrsteron which stimulate uterine gland to produce watery mucus.

Corpus luteum is a yellowish, hormone-secreting mass in the ovary formed after ovulation has taken place at that site. If fertilization happens, ‘corpus luteum’ is maintained and the secretory cells produce ‘estrogen’ and ‘progesterone’.
Progesterone is involved in developing and maintaining the ‘endometrium’, making it suitable for implantation and maintaining pregnancy. If the ‘ovum’ is not fertilized, the ‘corpus luteum’ becomes atretic and involutes to form the fibrous corpus albicans.
The ‘secretory cells’ of the ‘corpus luteum’ are phagocytosed by ‘macrophages’.
