Massai later met Geronimo, who was recruiting Apache to fight American settlers and soldiers. Massai and Gray Lizard agreed to join Geronimo, who instructed them to lay in supplies of arms, food, and ammunition.Other sources state that Massai also served the United States government on two separate occasions, once in 1880 and the other in 1885, as an Apache Scout.

Explanation:
- In 1885 after the intrusion of the British into East Africa, the British evicted the Maasai from their lands to create room for European settlers from Britain, Canada, the United States, and South Africa.
- The Maasailand stretched from the central lakes in Kenya, namely Naivasha, Baringo, Nakuru, & Natron to the Northern part of Kenya (35,000 Km2).
- The Maasai grazing lands were also alienated in Rift Valley where the Laikipiak Maasai were evicted to reserves south of Nairobi.
