let A be area of rectangle , L be the length of rectangle and w be breadth of the rectangle ,then

A=LXW

A= 2LX2W

therefore the area of rectangle is increased by four times

or is increased by factor of 4

original length=l

original breadth=b

original area =l×b=a

thrice it's length=3l

thrice it's breadth =3b

area=3l×3b=9l×b=9a

hence area becomes 9 times if the original.
