When sound travels through a medium the particles of the medium set neighbouring particles into motion due to which vibrations are produced and sound is heard.

when sound travels the particles of the medium vibrates back and forth to their direction and toward the wave motion.Also they vibrates the other particles nearby them and then it reach to our ears.
