When leaves are kept in salt solution, the process of osmosis occurs.

Osmosis is defined as the movement of solvent molecules from region of higher concentration to lower concentration through semi permeable membrane.

The process occuring here specifically is exosmosis.

Exosmosis is marked with movement of water outside the cell. The process results in plasmolysed cell which seems shrinked due to loss of water.
