One day Mr. Crocker-Harris made one of his classical jokes. Nobody understood and hence nobody laughed. Still Taplow knew that Mr. Crocker-Harris meant something funny and he laughed out of courtesy. Mr. Crocker-Harris said that he was impressed by the progress made by Taplow what others in his form (class) could not and then asked Taplow to explain to the whole class what he had understood.
