it is the fluid through which chemical messengers at tach to their receptors and receptors make the involved cells to give physiological responses ....that is all
in other words we can say:
synapse is the fluid which helps in neurological transmission...

When the impulse (or 'action potential') reaches the presynaptic terminal (the end of the neuron) of the first neuron, it causes a number of neurotransmitters to be released into the synaptic cleft (the bit between the two neurons).
