what happens chemically when quick like is added to water

slaked lime is formed.......
CaO + H2O -------> Ca(OH)2
quick. ...................slaked
lime........................ lime

quick lime is also called Calcium oxide and slaked lime is also called calcium hydroxide....and this reaction is highly exothermic.....

quick lime is CaO
therefore...
CaO + H2O -------->Ca(OH)2
hence , when quick lime is added to water , slaked lime is formed.
