a live wire and a neutral wire come in direct contact or touch each other. ..this results into short circuit

the resistance of the circuit becomes less and hence huge amount of current passes through it....which raises the temperature and the circuit catches fire

hope this helps...

Battery short circuitA short circuit is simply a low resistance connection between the two conductors supplying electrical power to any circuit. This results in excessive current flow in the power source through the 'short,' and may even cause the power source to be destroyed. If a fuse is in the supply circuit, it will do its job and blow out, opening the circuit and stopping the current flow. _Preventing short circuits_

*Keep your stitches small and snug throughout your circuit. ...

*Keep power and ground lines far apart from each other. ...

*Use a multimeter's continuity tester to check your circuit for shorts. ...

*Put one probe on power and one probe on ground. ...

*Check your circuit for shorts after finishing each path in your circuit.
