The following changes occur during metaphase :

➡ Each chromosome is attached to the spindle fibre .

➡ The centroemere serves as the point of attachment to the spindle .

➡ The chromosome line up in a single plane which is exactly at the middle of the cell .

◼ Metaphase occurs just after the prophase and before the anaphase .

◼ There are 4 phases in karyokinesis ( splitting of nucleus ) :- prophase , metaphase , anaphase , telophase .

◼ Mitosis has two parts karyokinesis and cytokinesis ( splitting of cytoplasm) .

◼ Mitosis helps in growth of the body and repair of damaged parts of the body .

◼ Mitosis mainains the same number of chromosome .

◼ Cell cycle is divided into : G1 , S and G2 as well as mitotic phase .

◼ Mitosis of animals is different from plants .

◼ In animals , asters are formed which is not present in plants .

◼ In animals , there is no cell plate formation and the cytokinesis takes place by furrowing of protoplasm .

=>\bold{Metaphase} is a stage in eukaryotic cell division in which the chromosomes align on the metaphase plate in the middle of the cell.

=> During \bold{metaphase} and late \bold{prometaphase} , the cell performs as series of checkpoints to ensure that the spindle has formed. The microtubules emanating from each side of the cell attach to each chromosome.
