The soil becomes saturated with water due to flooding and this condition is known as water logging. In other words we can say the soil is water logged i.e there are no air spaces left in the soil now.
Water logging can affect the growth of the crops and hence deteriorate the production rate.
Hope that helps you :-):-)

Answer:

Respiration of plants will be affected because the oxygen present in the interspaces of the soil will be replaced by water.
