Xylem is a water-conducting tissue in plants. It transports water from the roots to the different parts of the plant. If the xylem of the plant is removed, upward movement of water will stop leading to wilting of leaves and ultimately causes the death of a plant.

Answer:
Plants will die.
Explanation:
More food was transported to the fruits and stored there so the plant with the outer ring removed had bigger fruits than the plant with uncut stem. Food could not be transported to the roots of the plant and they would gradually die and not be able to absorb water for the plant.
