Breathing has four stages: inhaling, full pause, exhaling, and empty pause- which helps to increase oxygen in the blood.
If the oxygen is more in the blood, we will be less fatigued and more mentally alert, as there is a strong connection between respiration and one’s mental state.
Thus, if an athlete don't take long breathe before starting race, he may fatigue or unconscious.
