eye have two types of cells:-
1) rod cells
2)cone cells

rod cells produces rodopsin which is responsible for dark vision (black and white)

cone cells produce iodopsin which is responsible for coloured vision

therefore when cone cells are absent in the eye the eye will only have rod cells and hence it will lose its capability to distinguish between colors and will view objects as black and white
