Exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the lungs and the blood is now oxygenated (with oxygen).
Through the systemic circulation, oxygenated blood travels from the left side of the heart to the other areas of the body. At various organ sites, exchange of gases, nutrients, and waste through lymph occurs.

The main reason for double circulation of the blood in our body is so that the oxygenated and the deoxygenated blood can be prevented from mixing.
and so if it does not take place then the oxygenated and the deoxygenated blood would mix and our energy sources will not be met.
